Bilingual Advocacy Internship at Arts for LA
Arts for LA seeks an undergraduate intern for the fall 2011 semester (Sept. 12 - Dec. 16).
Arts for LA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit working to foster a healthy environment in which arts and culture may thrive and be accessible to all in the Los Angeles region. We employ a combination of “high-touch” and “high-tech” approaches to inform and empower a network of local stakeholders throughout the County. Arts for LA works with over 19,000 local subscribers and 250+ members. We are a three-person operation; our intern will work under the Advocacy Manager, but will be in close contact with the Executive Director and Development & Operations Manager as well.
We seek a bilingual Arts Advocacy Intern with interest in both arts & culture and advocacy/civic engagement.
Skills Required:
- Communications – verbal and written (calls, memos, emails, presentations, etc.)
- Excellent English to Spanish Translation
- Basic computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Basic research & data collection skills
The Arts Advocacy Intern will be instrumental in the Fall 2011 Candidate Surveys.
Candidate Survey Duties
- Contact Candidate campaigns to collect information, inform campaign of survey, encourage participation & follow up with campaigns that are unresponsive.
- Assist in Information Management: Maintain spreadsheet that tracks survey implementation and progress.
- Track & document campaign news & events (e.g. forums).
- Update website with campaign events & responses.
- Develop a list of local media contacts for each campaign.
- Assist Advocacy Manager & staff to disseminate the press release for the survey and update website with regular report-outs.
Possible Additional Duties:
- Translate documents and presentations.
- Assist in scheduling meetings, presentations, and workshops.
- Research & document general community needs & issues, local education issues and local cultural resources.
- Assist in survey development, implementation and data analysis.
- Assist in Information Management: Maintain spreadsheets that document meetings, partners & events.
- Provide as-needed administrative support to Advocacy Manager.
Although we will provide mentorship and guidance, independent and self-motivated workers are preferred. Above all, we are looking for someone who believes in the work we do. Sense of humor and grace under pressure is a plus. Please spend time exploring www.ArtsforLA.org prior to applying.
The intern will work out of Arts for LA’s downtown LA office for 8 hours/week, preferably on Fridays. We would prefer the intern to receive school credit for the internship and are happy to coordinate with his/her institution as needed.
